Known by many names and in many forms, Anime Punch (sometimes under the alias "Bakuhatsu Fest") was a yearly campus event for the OSU Anime Club. Sometimes a picnic, sometimes a marathon, it was good relaxing fun.
Then, in 2005 an idea was formed to make it a campus cosplay event. Fearing that there would not be enough interest on campus alone, it was opened up to the public. In fear that cosplay wouldn't be a big enough draw, it was expanded into a "Micro-con," a one day event that packed the same punch as a three day con. Ironically, cosplay ended up being an afterthought in the planning as we all pulled together to make the best micro-con we could. We expected maybe 40 people to show up—we got roughly 300! Inspired by how many people showed up, and by how few were actually from campus, we realized our dream of spawning a full convention!
Then, in 2006 The Armageddicon had what was probably the most fun convention in Ohio. Over 1000 people showed up for what turned out to be one hell of a weekend! Though we weren't without glitches, everything ran fairly well, and we managed to create the controlled chaos we had strived so hard for. With some of the craziest programming, and some of the smartests (and coolest) guests possible, as well as a number of spontanious events and the light, party atmosphere, Anime Punch has quickly built a reputation for being both a party-con, and a convention that you can really take something away from.
Now as we build towards our big 2007 event, Armageddicon II, we have a lot of expectations to fulfil. It is our goal to maintain our chaotic feel, as well as the feeling that this is a con that YOU put something into. We aren't some theme park that you go into, use, and leave. No matter how big we get, we want to be something that you contribute to the success or failure of. A place where the only difference between staff and member is whether you are scheduled to help out, or whether you take it upon yourself to start some fun!
No one can tell you exactly how they became orphans, but what we do know is that Ann (19) and Penny (11) have roamed Japan relying on only each other for as long as either of them can remember. Choosing the difficult path of dedicated martial artists they live outside the bounds of civilization, rejecting any comforts, and never backing down from a fight. They are forever white-belts; unable to advance in rank because they killed their master. On top of that, they must face the shame and indignity of not being able to avenge his death because they were the ones who defeated him. Why they wander will forever be a mystery, but someday they may even save Japan.
Armageddicon II takes place in the year 2097 among the shattered remains of what was once the utopian accomplishment of man, but is now the inhospitable wasteland of a forgotten world.
The second renaissance that was inspired by the abandonment of the hopeless dream of man living in space created an Eden for humanity that left these blessed masses completely unprepared for the very sudden and very complete end of the world. The apex of man will forever be April 30th 2095, because after the stroke of noon on that date over 95% of humans ceased to exist. In the following seven days anyone who had had a place in mans society would die without the crutch it provided. Another human child would never be born.
But there was one race of people who had never been a part of society. Crawling out from the shattered buildings and ruined cities came the lowest form of man... THE OTAKU. With no hope or desire to save mankind from extinction, they placed all their desire and energy into a single goal: To have one last convention!
However, every attempt to gather was met with destruction, and their numbers were falling fast. Yet they did not fall into hiding, and their hopes were not swayed. Soon a prophesy arose that two legendary warriors from another century would return to guide them in mans last conquest. Every single living human is waiting for, working for, desiring for the same thing. All humanity is dedicated towards a single cause. THE ARMAGEDDICON. Man's last stand against the universe. Man's last declaration of existence. A beacon that no force in the universe could ever extinguish, a shining memorial that shouts in the face of the universe that rejected us "OUR LEGACY CANNOT BE ERASED! WE WERE OTAKU, WE WERE REAL, AND WE KNEW HOW TO PARTY!!!"
